TOKAMAK :: CURRENT SET  

The band are working hard on adding new material to the set, aided by the monthly residency at the White House. We are going to start exploring original material - starting with a little something penned by Peter in 11/8....

A classic from Larry Carlton from his eponymous album in 1978. Martin says this number was the start of his enduring love for jazz fusion music. It's tough to solo over the bridge....

A blistering jazz rock number by Frank Gambale. An exercise in discipline for the rhythm section!

More dramatic mood changes than a psycho! What does that say about Mike Stern - or ToKaMaK come to that?

CHROMAZONE ::

One of the first numbers we decided on. We must be mad - a tour de force of chromatic melody from Mike Stern again. And Steve nails the astonishing Mike Brecker solo - on guitar!

BLUE MILES ::

Chick Corea's take on the blues. Same structure as Miles Davis' Freddie Freeloader - Chick was entitled 'cos he did play with the man! Err. We didn't.

FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE CADILLAC CLUB ::

Bob Berg's retro quickstep number. Foot tapping stuff.

SWAMP THING ::

How does Dave Weckl do it? Easy - great musical insight, great musicians and tight as a drum arrangements. This number is a blast!

HIGH LIFE ::

Dave Weckl's band proves that you just can't have too many themes in one number. A chance for John to brandish his sticks in 12/8

PEACHES EN REGALIA ::

Frank Zappa revisited this number several times in his career. Didn't change it much though...catchy tune - tough to play. Nostalgia from Hot Rats. We play it as a medley of early Jazz Rock with.......

CONTUSION ::

....a Stevie Wonder number! Featured on 'Songs in the Key of Life' (the track before Sir Duke) - a real surprise. Challenging timing....don't lose count!

ACCESS DENIED ::

A short burst of 6/8 energy from Dave Weckl. Great fun.

CRAZY HORSE ::

A big brash number with lots of horn arrangements coutesy of Steve's synth kazoo thingy. Thanks again to Dave Weckl.

Steely Dan in 4/4 - except for the rhythmic reductions in 3/4... A song about an obsessed jeweller. We think.

We take this Steely Dan number slowly to emphasise the stunning chords. A chance for Rich to sing.

Larry Carlton's rock'n'roll romp shifts up a fret each repeat. Stops the keyboard player getting complacent!
